Celtic have signed a lot of players under the management of Ange Postecoglou. That also means though that the competition for places is high in the squad and some youngsters have found it difficult to get regular playing time at Parkhead. For them, the best thing is to go out on loan and continue their development at a club where they will get regular playing time.
Adam Montgomery is someone who is very highly rated at Celtic and had actually played a decent bit of first-team football at Parkhead in the previous campaign, and at one point of time, there were calls for him to be the starter at left-back.
As the season progressed, some of his form faded away though and Montgomery found himself struggling for playing time in Postecoglou’s side. He was sent out on loan to Aberdeen in the second half of the previous campaign and this time around, he finds himself at St Johnstone.
There he is playing regular football. According to stats from Transfermarkt, Montgomery has made 16 appearances for St Johnstone till now, scoring a goal and providing three assists in 1228 minutes of football.
Postecoglou gives green light to Celtic loan deal
Montgomery’s loan deal at St Johnstone was initially supposed to run till upcoming January, but now, it looks like it has gotten the green light to be extended till the end of the season. As reported by The Courier, Postecoglou said:
"“I think he is happy there.“He is contributing there and it’s important for us that our young players are playing.“Callum is a good coach for Adam.“He develops young players well and we’d be happy for him to stay there.“But, obviously, that has got to be agreed by all parties.”"
St Johnstone manager, Callum Davidson, has already publicly talked about wanting to extend the loan deal of Montgomery till the end of the season.
With Postecoglou also seeming interested, it looks like there should not be many hurdles in making sure that Montgomery stays in Perth till the end of the season unless the youngster disagrees himself, which is extremely unlikely to happen.
