Celtic have signed a lot of players over the past 18 months but at the same time, they have been smart about their additions as well. The club brought in Jota and Cameron Carter-Vickers on loan in the summer of 2021 and Daizen Maeda in January of this year. All three impressed to the point that they were signed on permanent deals.
This summer, the club leaned on loan signings as well. To be honest, the move for Oliver Abildgaard has not worked at all and he is expected to return to Rubin Kazan at the end of the campaign. The same cannot be said about Moritz Jenz though, who has made his presence felt.
Jenz has played quite a bit since arriving on a season-long loan deal from Ligue 1 side, Lorient, with an option to buy included in the deal. Some recent rumours had suggested though that Celtic had till January to decide whether they were going to sign the German centre-back permanently or not. But it looks like that is not the case after all.
As reported by Football Scotland, Celtic have until the end of the current campaign before choosing their next steps surrounding Jenz.
Celtic transfer deadline rumour regarding Jenz turns out to be false
The future of Jenz at Parkhead will be interesting, simply due to the fact that the club have signed another centre-back in Yuki Kobayashi recently and are believed to be closing in on the versatile Tomoki Iwata, who many believe is at his best in the heart of defence as well.
Of course, this means that Ange Postecoglou could have a plethora of options when it comes to centre-back. And would it make sense for Celtic to sign Jenz permanently in this situation?
It does feel like a lot will depend on how the second half of the season goes for Jenz. He has been solid till now. But if he struggles for minutes moving forward, then one would not expect Celtic to turn his loan deal permanent at the end of the campaign.
