Craig Gordon was a major part of one of the most successful periods in the history of Celtic Football Club, and he certainly played his part in the recent 9IAR run. He spent six years at Parkhead and made more than 240 appearances for the Hoops. Since then, he has moved on to Hearts and been playing regular football there. Unfortunately for the goalkeeper, things took a turn for the worst in their recent game against Dundee United.
Gordon was the victim of a horror injury after he collided with Dundee United striker Steven Fletcher at speed in the 76th minute of the game.
The aftermath of the challenge looked horrific for the goalkeeper and while nothing has been officially confirmed yet, it would be a miracle if Gordon has managed to escape a leg break.
As reported by the Express, Hearts manager Robbie Neilson told BBC Radio Scotland after the game regarding Gordon’s situation:
"“He’s away up to hospital, it’s not looking great. I’m devastated for him, but he’ll get through it. The big man’s a warrior, and we’ll just help him through it, and we’ll see where we are in the next couple of days.”"
Former Celtic star suffers potential career-ending injury
It never feels good to see a player suffer an injury on the pitch, especially of this magnitude and one has to wonder whether this might spell the end of Gordon’s career on the pitch.
Gordon is set to turn 40 years of age on December 31 and was already pretty much in the twilight of his career, and this horror injury might just be too much to come back from at this stage.
It remains to be seen how things turn out and one can only wish that Gordon has managed to somehow avoid serious injury. But judging by the images of the injury circulating on social media, that might be nothing else but wishful thinking.
We can only wish Gordon the best of luck moving forward, hope that it is not a career-ending injury and we get to see him back on the pitch in the near future. Best wishes, Craig.
