Celtic have a few things to be worried about going into the January transfer window. One of them is the future of Josip Juranovic. He has been a starter for Ange Postecoglou’s side since arriving from Legia Warsaw about 18 months back. But recent rumours have suggested that the club have failed to agree a contract extension with the full-back. On top of that, he was immense at the World Cup, which has raised interest in his signature.
Clubs like Chelsea, Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur, Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, West Ham United, Torino, AS Roma, and several others have been linked with a move for Juranovic.
On the other hand, Celtic have already signed another right-back recently in the form of Alistair Johnston. Thus, there does feel like a sense of inevitability when it comes to the exit of Juranovic.
A player of his importance leaving in the middle of the season would be a worry for Celtic though, especially with three titles still to play for. But there might be an interesting solution to the problem.
Celtic should target Christopher Nkunku-style deal with Chelsea
It looks like Chelsea have recently agreed a deal with RB Leipzig to sign Nkunku, where the player will be joining the Blues at the end of the season.
Something similar would make sense for Celtic as well, where a deal is agreed for Juranovic to move next summer but he remains at Parkhead till the end of the season.
Encouragingly, Chelsea have been linked with a move for Juranovic as well, and this is definitely an idea that the club should try to make happen. At this point, it seems pretty inevitable that Croatian will leave, but at the same time, him leaving in January would be a blow for the Hoops. An Nkunku-style transfer would solve that problem.
