The swiftness with which Celtic have moved in the transfer market in recent times is something to behold. For years, the club had a reputation for dragging their heels when it came to signing players and often lost out on key targets as a result of it. Now though, they seem to be getting deals over the line weeks before the window even opens. The signings of Alistair Johnston and Yuki Kobayashi are prime examples.
It does not look like Celtic are done with their transfer business either and are looking to strengthen their squad further.
Ange Postecoglou seemed to hint that another signing was close to completion, although the identity of the player is unknown. Celtic have been linked with the likes of Cho Gue-sung, Afsha, Aissa Laidouni and a few others in recent times. But on the other hand, they have a habit of springing up surprises as well. So it might not be worth trying to guess.
As reported by Football Scotland, Postecoglou said about the situation:
"“We’re getting pretty close now, I know Michael [Nicholson, chief executive] and Chris [McKay, chief financial officer] want to spend some time with their families at Christmas. We’re working on things.“There are still a couple that we are kind of investigating at the moment. We will see how things transpire over the next week or so.“We’re not even into January yet so there is still a bit of time.”"
Celtic seem to be closing in on third signing of January transfer window
It will be very interesting to see where Celtic end up strengthening in the upcoming January transfer window.
Their biggest area of need at the moment might be striker, with the finishing up top this season being questionable at best, which has led to a number of games being closer than they need to be. On the other hand, Giorgos Giakoumakis is being linked with a move away from Parkhead as well.
But on the other hand, that has not stopped the club from being linked with a number of midfielders in recent weeks and months.
Postecoglou has shown an incredible eye for identifying the right players since his arrival at Celtic though and the fans will trust his judgement, no matter who he ends up bringing to the club.
