The World Cup is in the books and it ended with Argentina lifting the trophy after 36 years, and Lionel Messi most probably solidifying himself as the greatest player of all-time. There were other major storylines coming out of the tournament as well though, and one of them was the rise of Celtic full-back, Josip Juranovic.

Juranovic was a nailed on starter for the Croatian national team and put in some tremendous performances, especially the one against Brazil where he managed to keep Vinicius Jr quiet. Those displays would help them to a third place finish at the World Cup, exceeding expectations once again.

As a result, Juranovic is also believed to have caught the eye of some of the biggest clubs in Europe, with one of them appearing to be Barcelona. The rumour broke out some days ago but many fans had questioned it.

Now, as reported by Sky Sports, Barcelona are interested in signing Juranovic in January, with one source even saying that he is their number one target at right-back.

Juranovic has been a regular starter for Celtic ever since he arrived in the summer of 2021 from Legia Warsaw.

There does seem to be a feeling of inevitability about his Parkhead exit though. Following the World Cup, interest in his signature has only increased, while his transfer value is expected to be at its peak as well.

Of course, a key first-team starter leaving in the middle of the season won’t be ideal by any stretch of the imagination but it does look like the club have prepared beforehand by signing Alistair Johnston.

Now, it remains to be seen what the future holds for Juranovic. Other than Barcelona, the likes of Manchester United, Chelsea, Atletico Madrid and several other top clubs are also being linked with him.
