Celtic returned to action with a 1-0 win away at Aberdeen thanks to a late strike from Callum McGregor. The club captain was returning to action after a long time himself having picked up an injury in the game vs RB Leipzig in the Champions League group stage. Just when the club needed him the most, he went on to deliver once again though.
It was a terrific strike to say the least, especially considering the situation of the match. The Rangers had won previously and cut the lead down to six points.
But McGregor’s goal made sure that Celtic restored their nine point lead at the top of the table. It was fantastic way to mark his comeback to say the least and it was also the Hoops’ 200th goal under the management of Ange Postecoglou as manager.
And it looks like the club are still looking to evolve and get better, which will go as a warning to the rest of the league. As reported by The Herald, McGregor said:
"“That’s over the space of 18 months, which is a really good return.“It’s just important we keep evolving as a team, always looking after the defensive side of the game. But it’s a good record to have.“We have put ourselves in a good position and it’s always about us.“We can only look after our fixtures, we can’t worry about what is happening anywhere else.“If you prepare, turn up and win your games, then you are in a good place.“It’s important mentally to stay strong and that is what we are about.”"
Celtic star has sent a warning to the club’s Premiership rivals
It would be safe to say that Celtic are quite some distance ahead of the Rangers at this point of time. Nine points is a large gap, especially when you consider that the Hoops have only dropped three points in the league till now.
Now, it remains to be seen if they can hold on to that lead. The Rangers do seem to have some new found desire in them following the change of managers. Let’s see where Michael Beale is able to lead the club after replacing Giovanni van Bronckhorst in the Ibrox hot seat.
For Celtic, only one thing matters and that is their own results. If they can take care of those, they will be fine.
