Celtic have a pretty stacked squad at this point of time, with multiple good players vying for every position on the pitch. That has also meant that some players have not gotten the playing time that they need or feel they deserve. And it might be best for all parties involved for some of them to depart Parkhead in the future and join clubs where they will get consistent minutes.

Scott Robertson is one such player, who looks pretty much on his way out. His current deal runs out at the end of this season, and it does not look like he will be handed a contract extension.

Robertson has not played a single minute of football this season and only has appeared once in his career for the Celtic senior team. As a result, him leaving the club would not come as a major surprise to anyone.

Ange Postecoglou did not sound pleased though with the comments that Robertson made in public recently about an upcoming Parkhead exit. As reported by the Daily Record, the Celtic boss said:

"“Yeah, okay. I don’t know if he should be calling things himself in the papers but anyway.“Aside from that, Scott is one of these players who have been here for a very long time as a young kid and they all have dreams and aspirations to play for this club. Sometimes circumstance and timing doesn’t work out but that doesn’t mean they can’t have a meaningful career.“My advice to Scott and all the other young players is that ultimately it’s about having everything they’ve invested in and their families into having a football career, that they see that out. Sometimes it’s about opportunity and going to a place you’ll play more because once you reach a certain age the next stage of development is from playing.”"

Robertson was a very highly rated player while coming through the ranks at Celtic but never managed to make a mark in the senior team.

He did have some decent spells away on loan but that never resulted in him getting more opportunities at Parkhead. As a result, it might be the best step for him to move away.

At the same time though, one has to question whether he took the right decision by taking about the matter in public before the manager or the club had a chance to say anything.

It remains to be seen what the future holds for Robertson. He has been linked with St Mirren and Fleetwood Town, currently managed by Scott Brown.
