Josip Juranovic joined Celtic from Legia Warsaw in the summer of 2021 for a transfer fee believed to be around £2.5 million. In his first season with the Scottish giants, the full-back played a key part in them winning the Premiership and League Cup double. And he has gone on to play a starting role for the Croatia national team as well, as they reached the semi-finals of the 2022 World Cup.

His excellent performances for the Hoops and his national team have caught the eyes of giants across Europe, with clubs such as Chelsea, Manchester United, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid believed to be keeping tabs on his situation at Celtic.

Celtic had four representatives at the World Cup this time. All of them made the knockout rounds. And despite not being expected to make much of a mark on the competition, Croatia went all the way to the semi-finals before suffering defeat at the hands of Argentina. Zlatko Dalic’s team should be extremely proud of their performances though and hold their heads high.

In a bid to finish the campaign with a third place medal, Croatia next play Morocco. But Juranovic will not be part of the team on the day, as he has sustained a calf injury.

Celtic get Juranovic update after injury scare at World Cup

As tweeted out by Fabrizio Romano, Juranovic will not play in the third place game between Croatia and Morocco as he was on the pitch for 70 minutes against Argentina despite having a calf injury. He will be back in 8/10 days.

The defender is bound to miss Celtic’s league fixture against Aberdeen as he remains with his national team. Now, it remains to be seen how many more matches he will miss due to the injury and one would expect him to get a bit of a break as well, after participating in a lengthy World Cup campaign.

Of course, not having one of their regular starters is not good news for Celtic. At the same time though, there is a good possibility that he could leave the club permanently in January, with interest in his signature at its peak after a brilliant World Cup showing.
