Celtic have been linked with a number of players in recent weeks. One name that has frequently done the rounds of the rumour mill though is that of Cho Gue-sung. The South Korean striker starred for his national team at the World Cup and helped them make the last 16 of the competition. On the other hand, he has been on top form at club level as well.

Thus, it goes without saying that he is a striker in demand and looks set to make a move to Europe in the upcoming January transfer window.

Celtic, of course, could do with another striker at the moment. Their finishing has been questionable this season even though they sit at the top of the table. And on top of that, Giorgos Giakoumakis is being linked with a move away from the club with teams from England, Germany and Saudi Arabia rumoured to be interested.

Celtic seem to be making progress in a potential deal for Cho though and appear to be down to being one of the last two potential destinations for the South Korean striker.

Celtic handed massive Cho transfer boost amid Giakoumakis exit rumours

As reported by Sport Time (via Daily Record), Celtic and Fenerbahce are the main focus for the South Korean striker going into the January window. It looks like the “next destination will come out of these two teams” because the player “wants to play for a team with enough merit to reach the Champions League.”

Of course, Celtic took part in the Champions League group stages this season and impressed with some of their performances against top class opposition, even though they could not make it to the knockout rounds of the competition.

If the club are able to sign someone like Cho, it would be considered as a major coup. What would it mean for the future of Giakoumakis at Parkhead though?
