If Celtic fans had thought that the club had moved quickly in the previous January transfer window by announcing the triple deal for Reo Hatate, Daizen Maeda and Yosuke Ideguchi a day before it opened, then their expectations must have been blown out of the water this time around. The Hoops completed deals for Alistair Johnston and Yuki Kobayashi weeks beforehand.
With Josip Juranovic being linked with a Parkhead exit, there is a possibility that Johnston could be his replacement. On the other hand, Kobayashi is a left-footed centre-back and could provide Celtic with a different dimension at the back.
The great news is, it does not look like Celtic have any plans to stop when it comes to transfers in January and are still working on a few more things in order to further strengthen the squad.
Ange Postecoglou confirmed the club’s stance recently. As reported by The Scottish Sun, the Celtic manager said:
"“We’re still working on a few things. Whether they will happen or not, we will see.“If I feel something is there that will make us stronger then, as much as Michael Nicholson and Chris McKay may want to have a quiet Christmas, I’m going to keep them working over that time and keep them on their toes!“We’re still working on things. There’s no guarantee what will happen, but we’ve not even hit January yet, so we’ll see how things transpire.”"
Postecoglou delivers Celtic transfer update ahead of January window
It is safe to say that bringing in more players would be good for Celtic, especially with key players like Juranovic and Giorgos Giakoumakis being linked with moves away from Parkhead in the middle of the season, which is never good news.
On the other hand, they are being linked with highly rated players like Cho Gue-sung, Afsha and several others, although the club have made it a habit to spring a surprise or two here and there as well.
So, we will have to wait and see what Celtic are working on in the background at the moment and hopefully, things will go according to plan.
Postecoglou has shown an incredible eye for talent during his time as Celtic manager, identifying so many brilliant players in such a short span of time. Thus, the fans will trust whatever decisions the Australian ends up making in terms of future signings.
