Celtic might find themselves in urgent need of a striker this January with rumours suggesting that Giorgos Giakoumakis could be looking to complete a Parkhead exit and the Greek international has been linked with clubs from England, Germany and even Saudi Arabia. He is a key part of Ange Postecoglou’s team though and will need to be replaced, if he does indeed end up leaving.
Giakoumakis has been on top form in 2022, after enduring a rough starting in the first half of last season. He has been superb after that though and was arguably the club’s most important player in the second half of the previous campaign, as they got ahead of the Rangers in the title race and clinched the league against all expectations.
He has been in decent form this season as well. Thus, Giakoumakis leaving in the middle of the campaign would be a major blow to Postecoglou’s plans.
Celtic have been linked with Cho Gue-sung of Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors recently and he could potentially be a replacement for Giakoumakis.
Celtic working on deal to sign the in-form striker in January
It looks like Celtic are working on a deal to potentially sign Cho in January. As reported by GIVEMESPORT, journalist Dean Jones said:
"“As far as I know, they’re trying to find out right now if there’s any chance all that this can happen in January. If not, it’ll probably affect any outgoing.”"
Someone like Cho could be a solid addition to this Celtic side and a good replacement for Giakoumakis as well, as he is a similar profile of player.
Cho was very impressive at the 2022 World Cup, as South Korea made it to the last 16 of the competition. The striker got himself on the scoresheet twice and was excellent with his overall play as well.
His form at club level has been brilliant in recent times as well. According to stats from Transfermarkt, Cho scored 21 goals and provided 5 assists in 35 appearances in the 2022 campaign.
