Celtic’s transfer record since the arrival of Ange Postecoglou as manager has been exceptional. Over the course of the first two transfer windows, they were able to bring in talents like Jota, Kyogo, Matt O’Riley, Reo Hatate, Josip Juranovic, Cameron Carter-Vickers, Giorgos Giakoumakis, Liel Abada and several more, who made their mark in the first-team and helped to a Premiership and League Cup double against all expectations.
The summer signings from this time around have taken a bit longer to get going but the likes of Sead Haksabanovic and Alexandro Bernabei have already shown flashes of brilliance, while Aaron Mooy is a great option to have around as well now that he seems up to speed.
At the end of the day, there were always bound to be some signings that were not going to work out though and the decision to bring in Yosuke Ideguchi from Gamba Osaka has proven to be a mistake.
With first-team chances rarely coming his way, Ideguchi has been told to consider leaving as well. As reported by Football Insider, Alan Hutton said:
"“He has not played much. He is probably not better than what is on the pitch.“There are a lot in front in the pecking order. It is really up to him, does he want to sit there and try and fight knowing that he is rarely going to get minutes or is there an opportunity to go somewhere else and get game time.“It is a situation that he is going to have to talk over with the club but at this moment in time it does not seem to be working out.“"
Celtic midfielder has been told to consider leaving the club
The signing of Ideguchi was always an interesting and risky one. Unlike Hatate and Maeda, he did not have a standout campaign in the J-League before arriving at Celtic in January.
He was one of the most highly-rated in Japan early in his career though before a move to Leeds United did not work out and he got lost in the shuffle after that. As a result, it felt like a signing that was made based on what Postecoglou thought he could get out of Ideguchi and not on what he had been producing on the pitch in the recent past.
In hindsight, it would be safe to say that the risk did not work out. Ideguchi has barely featured although one also has to point out his bad luck and injury issues since arriving at Celtic. At the end of the day though, an exit might be best for all parties involved.
