It is looking like a Celtic transfer rumour that is headed nowhere. The Hoops have been linked with a number of highly rated players in recent times and have already completed a couple of deals as well, by bringing in Yuki Kobayashi and Alistair Johnston, weeks before the January transfer window even opens.
With Josip Juranovic looking set to leave after a tremendous World Cup campaign, Johnston might very well be coming in as his replacement. Recently though, rumours coming out of Spain suggested that Celtic held an interest in Real Valladolid’s Ivan Fresneda as well.
He is also being linked with clubs like Arsenal, Juventus, AC Milan and several others, and looks set to be on the end of transfer bids that Celtic could not possibly match.
As reported by AS, Fresneda’s release clause stands at around €30 million right now and interested parties are already handling amounts that are around half of the current clause.
Celtic’s rumoured interest in right-back seems to be headed nowhere
There is no doubt that Fresneda is a highly rated talent and could end up having a very bright future in the game.
At the end of the day though, he has only made 9 senior appearances for Real Valladolid till now. But considering the current state of the transfer market and the calibre of the clubs rumoured to be interested in him, it would not come as a major surprise if transfer offers around €15 million are made for the teenager.
The reality of the situation is that Celtic cannot compete with that. Their record signing is still Odsonne Edouard, who the club had signed for a transfer fee around £9 million. Thus, there is absolutely zero chance that the club will be shattering that in order to sign a highly rated but unproven right-back. So there goes that rumour.
