Celtic deserve a lot of credit for the efficiency that they have shown when it comes to getting transfer deals over the line. It is hard to imagine things moving this swiftly even a couple of years back but the arrival of Ange Postecoglou as manager seems to have brought a lot of positive changes with it.
The fact that the club have signed both Yuki Kobayashi and Alistair Johnston several weeks before the January transfer window has even opened is proof of Celtic’s new direction.
Fans expect them to make further additions in the upcoming window as well and one of the players that they have been linked with is Afsha of Al Ahly. But it looks like they might be losing pace in the race to sign the Egyptian international star.
As reported by Football Scotland, an unnamed MLS club have opened talks with Afsha. They have put terms in front of Al Ahly and the player is interested at this time. Celtic are not completely out of the race to sign him but they are yet to lodge an official offer.
MLS club have reportedly opened talks for Celtic target
Afsha is a player that Celtic seem to have had their eyes on for years now. But a move has not transpired till now.
He is pretty much in his prime though and signing him would be considered as a major coup, but only at the right transfer price.
Earlier rumours coming out of Egypt had suggested that Al Ahly would be looking for a transfer fee in the range of €5 million in order to part ways with Afsha. That might be too steep a figure for Celtic, considering that attacking midfield is not a position of immediate need for the club at this time. Instead, they might need to add to their ranks up front urgently with Giorgos Giakoumakis being linked with an exit.
