The Celtic squad has undergone a lot of changes over the past three transfer windows or so. Several key players like Scott Brown, Odsonne Edouard, Kris Ajer, Tom Rogic, Nir Bitton and Ryan Christie have left the club. On the other hand, several new faces have arrived and become integral members of the starting XI, under the management of Ange Postecoglou.

So many new players arriving has also meant though that some of the youngsters who were already at the club, have gotten lost in the shuffle. One such player is Scott Robertson.

Robertson was very highly rated while coming through the youth ranks at the club but he has only made a single senior appearance for the Hoops till now. His contract runs out next summer and he will not be offered a new deal.

The youngster appears to be looking forward to taking on a new challenge though. As reported by the Daily Record, he said:

"“I’m weirdly looking forward to getting a new team, facing a fresh challenge and playing regularly. The manager will have a meeting with me on Thursday to tell me what’s been decided but I’m already aware of the situation.“My agent told me last week after he’d been on a phone call with the manager and chief executive Michael Nicholson and they told him I couldn’t be guaranteed game time and there wouldn’t be a contract extension next summer. I’ve missed that feeling of getting ready for a game on a Saturday and gaining that consistency which playing week after week brings.“Whether I move in January or in the summer remains to be seen but I’m excited about what the future will bring. It’s about waiting to see if the right club comes along and taking careful consideration of the options out there.”"

So while it is still unclear whether Robertson will be leaving in January or next summer, one thing that seems certain is that he is on his way out.

One cannot help but feel that perhaps he deserved more chances to show what he is truly capable of. He has had good spells away on loan at clubs like Gillingham FC, Doncaster Rovers and Crewe Alexandra.

Rumours have suggested that St Mirren and Fleetwood Town, currently managed by Broony, would be interested in a potential move for Robertson. It remains to be seen what the future holds for the midfielder.

One thing that must be said though is the fact that Celtic do not have a good recent record when it comes to bringing through youth players into the first-team and that is an area where they need  to improve moving forward.
