Celtic’s eye for talent over the past few transfer windows has been impressive to say the least and now, it looks like they are aiming high by targeting a defender also linked with clubs like Arsenal, AC Milan and Juventus. The Hoops might very possibly be on the verge of parting ways with Josip Juranovic in January and while they have already signed Alistair Johnston, it appears that they want to bring in another right-back to the club.
The player that they seem to have set their eyes on is 18-year-old Spanish wonderkid, Ivan Fresneda, who has also caught the eye of some of the biggest clubs around Europe.
As reported by Radio Marca Valladolid (via ElDesmarque Valladolid), Celtic have also joined the race to sign Fresneda, along with clubs like AC Milan, Juventus, Brentford, Southampton, Fulham, Arsenal and Rennes.
Thus, it is safe to say that the race to sign Fresneda is going to be tough. One can only hope that Celtic’s impressive record in developing players over the past couple of years gives them a boost in the eyes of Fresneda.
Celtic in race to sign defender also wanted by Arsenal, AC Milan and Juventus
Fresneda is just 18 years of age. He has made only nine appearances for Real Valladolid at the senior level till now. He has represented the Spain under 19 team as well.
It looks like he has been able to impress immensely in those handful of appearances considering the calibre of teams in the race to sign the teenager.
It remains to be seen what kind of a transfer fee Real Valladolid are looking for as well, in order to part ways with their wonderkid.
Even if Juranovic left Celtic in January, the Hoops are still going to have two solid players vying for a starting spot at right-back in the form of Johnston and Anthony Ralston. Lets see if they can add Fresneda to the mix.
