Celtic’s recruitment over the last few windows deserves a lot of respect. Ange Postecoglou certainly has a good eye for the kind of players who would fit into his system while the board deserve credit for backing the Australian manager from the very beginning, even when a lot of fans were not sure whether he was the right man for the job or not.
One of their best signings in a long, long time has been the decision to bring in Matt O’Riley from MK Dons. He had been playing League One football in England before arriving at Celtic and naturally, there were many who questioned whether he would be able to deal with the step up.
Less than a year on and he is a bona fide starter for Celtic and has already earned links with the likes of Manchester United, Arsenal, Liverpool, Borussia Dortmund and several other notable clubs. One of them is Leicester City, managed by Brendan Rodgers.
As reported by ESPN (via Leicestershire Live), the 22-year-old midfielder is believed to have a transfer price tag of around £15 million to £20 million if Celtic were to part ways with him. Leicester City have been keeping tabs since October.
Leicester City will have to make a blockbuster transfer bid if they want Celtic youngster
There is no doubt that O’Riley is a top player and with the way he is performing, his transfer value could rise even further in the future.
With some of the biggest clubs in the world in the O’Riley transfer race, Celtic can hope to fetch a major transfer fee if or when they do let him go.
That should not be anytime soon though, considering the fact that the likes of Josip Juranovic and Giorgos Giakoumakis are rumoured to be on their way out of Parkhead in the near future.
