Cho Gue-sung is a player that Celtic are believed to be very interested in. The timing of these rumours are very interesting as well considering that it looks like the club have failed to agree a contract extension with Giorgos Giakoumakis and as a result, the Greek striker has been linked with a move away from Parkhead.

Cho had a brilliant World Cup campaign with the South Korean national team. He scored a couple of goals and his overall play was very impressive as well, as they were able to qualify out of a tough group consisting of Portugal, Uruguay and Ghana. Ultimately, Brazil knocked them out in the last 16.

Cho’s form at club level has been superb in recent times as well. According to stats from Transfermarkt, in 35 appearances in the 2021/22 season, he scored 21 goals and provided 5 assists.

Thus, it is not hard to see why Celtic might be interested in him. But the first thing that the striker will be looking for is consistent playing time every week.

Celtic target explains what he is looking for from next club

As reported by The Herald, in an interview on South Korean channel Yonhap’s ‘Saturday Wide’ programme, Cho said:

"“Rather than dreaming of signing for one specific club, for me, being able to play every week is the most important aspect of any move and that’s what will influence me.“But I can honestly say there is nothing concrete about a transfer yet.”"

Cho would be a solid addition to this Celtic side, whether Giakoumakis remains at the club or ends up leaving.

One could argue that they have always needed a third striker and it was a bit of a mistake going into the campaign with only two real options up front in Kyogo and Giakoumakis. Neither of them has been at their clinical best in recent times and ended up missing a lot of important chances, especially in the Champions League.

Having scored 21 goals in the previous campaign, it is pretty clear that Cho knows his way to the back of the net. It will be difficult to bring him to Glasgow though, with a lot of other European clubs expected to be interested as well.
