One of the players that Celtic have been linked with recently is Cho Gue-sung of Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors. It is true that most Hoops fans would have come across his name for the first time during the recent World Cup. The South Korean striker was immensely impressive during the tournament though and could be a very good signing for the Glasgow giants.

He scored twice for South Korea in the game against Ghana and impressed in the other games as well with his overall play, even though he could not find the back of the net.

One of the moments that most people will remember is when Cristiano Ronaldo appeared to be visibly angry with something that Cho said to him during the match between South Korea and Portugal.

Now, Cho has shed some light on exactly what he said that left Ronaldo unhappy. As reported by The Herald, the Celtic-linked striker said while speaking on South Korean channel Yonhap’s ‘Saturday Wide’ programme:

"“We were in a situation where we had to score one more goal against Portugal and Ronaldo was being substituted off.“He was being slow so I walked up to him and said ‘faster’ in English to him. I wanted him to get off the pitch quicker. He wasn’t happy.“There were many people who thought what I did wasn’t acceptable, but I wanted him off the pitch as quickly as possible because I was desperate to win.“I really enjoyed the tournament and we all got a great reaction when we returned home to the airport.”"

Thus, it does not appear that Cho said anything out of line to Ronaldo and he was well within reason to ask the Portuguese star to leave the pitch quickly considering that South Korea were looking for a goal at that point of time.

South Korea would ultimately go on to win that game and make it to the last 16 of the competition, which was an impressive feat in itself considering that they had been placed in the same group as Portugal, Uruguay and Ghana. They were knocked out from the competition by Brazil in the next round but it was a positive campaign for them overall without a doubt.

Individually, Cho was impressive and it looks like he will be on his way to Europe soon. Is his next destination, Celtic Park? Time shall tell.
