Ange Postecoglou is the most popular manager that Celtic have had in a long, long time. When the Australian arrived in the summer of 2021, it did raise quite a few eyebrows. The Hoops had chased Eddie Howe for months but it failed to materialise. And many had viewed the move to bring in the then Yokohama F. Marinos boss as a sign of desperation on the part of a club that had run out of ideas and options.

Well, Postecoglou has been a superhit as Celtic manager. Against all odds and expectations, he led the club to a Premiership and League Cup double last season. This time around, the club are leading the league by nine points after just 15 games. And they have done it all in style.

While Celtic fans are delighted with Postecoglou, some of his former players seem to have been intimidated by the manager. One such player is St Johnstone’s Ryan McGowan.

As reported by BBC, McGowan said on BBC Scotland’s Sacked in the Morning:

"“He is so distant and so scary, you are petrified of him – I still am. He’d have certain rules that were just non-negotiable.“As an average player, I liked that. He just told you what to do and you tried to do it as best you could. He was very good at that.“There are certain managers who are like, ‘go and express yourself’. I can’t express myself at all. Just tell me what to do and I’ll try to do it!”"

No matter what Postecoglou’s managerial style is, it is certainly working at Celtic and producing the results.

And no player has had anything negative to say about the manager either, even those who have left since his arrival, like Christopher Jullien, have had positive things to say about the Australian.

Thus, it is safe to say that Celtic fans hope that he will continue to do what he is doing right now, as it looks like the club are well on their way to a second straight league title, unless there is an unexpected collapse in the second half of the campaign.

The club deserve a lot of credit for backing the boss as well, as they have signed Yuki Kobayashi and Alistair Johnston weeks before the transfer window has opened.
