England endured another disappointing World Cup campaign, as they were knocked out of the quarter-finals against France. That has raised questions about Gareth Southgate’s place in the dugout. And It would be a sensational turn of events if it happens but former Celtic boss, Brendan Rodgers, could go from a Premier League relegation battle to being the Three Lions’ manager all in the same season.

Although Southgate is under contract until after the 2024 EUROs, England’s latest World Cup failure has led to inevitable questions about his future and rumours about a potential exit. He is set to take his time to decide his position.

England lost in a close 2-1 defeat against France, with Harry Kane missing a crucial penalty late on in the game. At the end of the day, a loss is a loss though.

As reported by The Telegraph (via Daily Record), Rodgers plus Mauricio Pochettino, Thomas Tuchel and Steve Holland ‘would all be on the list of possible candidates’, if Southgate decided to leave the England hot seat.

Rodgers has struggled this season with the Foxes and at times, early in the campaign, seemed to be a joint leader in the sack race with Steven Gerrard.

Gerrard, of course, slipped ahead and Rodgers has since restored a return to better form for Leicester City, and they have climbed up to 13th in the Premier League table.

It is believed that Leicester City would be due around £8 million in compensation though from any move for Rodgers. On top of that, the manager is on a bumper contract at King Power Stadium. Thus, all things considered, it is hard to see the former Celtic boss being the one in the England hot seat, even if Southgate ended up walking away.
