As the January transfer window edges closer, Celtic seem to be weighing up their options in the market. While the ongoing World Cup campaign should have provided the Hoops with a plethora of new targets, Ange Postecoglou might have to part ways with some players in order to make room for the new signings.
Deemed one of the most important arrivals of the 2021 summer transfer window, Giorgos Giakoumakis could be one of the players to seek a new destination in the upcoming winter transfer window.
Since moving to Scotland from Dutch side VVV-Venlo, the Greece international has made the most of the opportunities presented to him by Postecoglou. He was one of the key reasons behind Celtic’s league triumph last season, with his form being stellar in the second half of the campaign.
This season, he has continued to be productive in front of goal. But now, it looks like a move away from the club might lie in his future.
Celtic striker seems to be pushing for a transfer
As reported by Sportime (via Daily Record), Giakoumakis has dropped his agent in a bid to push for a transfer to the Premier League.
Although Giakoumakis has a contract with the club until the summer of 2026, rumours have suggested that talks over a new deal between the two parties have broken down. The Greek striker might be looking for a new challenge as well, after already achieving success in the Premiership. Also, at 28 years of age, this might be his last chance to get a big move.
On the other hand, Celtic have been linked with South Korean striker, Cho Gue-sung, in recent weeks. He could be a possible replacement for the Greek forward.
At the same time though, Giakoumakis still has a long-term contract with Celtic and if they do not receive a suitable offer for him in the middle of the season, they should not be under any pressure to let him leave.
