Celtic appear to be headed for a busy January transfer window. The club have not even waited for it to open and already completed two signings in the form of Yuki Kobayashi and Alistair Johnston. More could be on the way as well, with them being linked with the likes of Cho Gue-sung, Afsha and some other players over the past days and weeks. On the other hand though, there are some who could be headed out the exit door.
With the Croatia national team reaching the semi-final of the World Cup, it seems almost certain that Josip Juranovic will be leaving the club this January.
Rumours had broken out weeks ago that the player was likely to leave after failing to agree a contract extension and that the club were ready to listen to offers for him. And with his performances at the World Cup, his transfer value must be at its peak after the tournament.
In that regard, a recent update should be viewed as good news by Celtic fans. As tweeted out by Simon Phillips, Chelsea had Juranovic on the radar in the summer and that is still the case now.
Why Chelsea being interested in Juranovic is good news for Celtic
With Juranovic’s exit looking inevitable, the most important thing for Celtic is to make sure that they get as big of a transfer fee as possible for the Croatian.
In that regard, there might be no better club in world football than Chelsea at the moment, who have splashed out massively since their change in ownership.
It is believed that they shelled out a transfer fee around £62 million to sign Marc Cucurella in the summer from Brighton & Hove Albion, and he did not even make the Spanish squad for the World Cup. Thus, if they would even shell out half of that for a World Cup semi-finalist in Juranovic, it would shatter the Scottish record.
