Celtic have already signed one standout performer from the World Cup in the form of Alistair Johnston. He was a regular for the Canadian national team and even though they were knocked out from the group stages of the competition itself, they did give a good account of themselves. Now though, it looks like they have their eyes on a midfielder, who enjoyed a great tournament as well.

The player is Tunisian midfielder, Aissa Laidouni. He currently plays for Ferencvaros, a club that Celtic fans will be very familiar with and had a great World Cup campaign representing the Tunisia national team.

Laidouni got the Man of the Match for his performance against Denmark and caught a lot of eyes as well for how well he did against France, as Tunisia scripted a famous win over the defending champions of the competition.

As reported by Foot Mercato, English clubs, Celtic and Wolfsburg are interested in Laidouni and Ferencvaros are ready to let him go for a transfer fee around €4 million.

Celtic want to add World Cup standout to their midfield

The timing of the rumours involving Celtic and Laidouni are certainly interesting considering the fact that Yosuke Ideguchi has recently been linked with a Parkhead exit as rumours have suggested that Japanese clubs are interested in him.

Ideguchi arrived at Celtic in January and it is no secret that he has failed to make a mark in the team. It was a risky move from the very beginning and he has not been helped by the fact that he has already had to deal with multiple injury problems.

Celtic seem to have been on the lookout for a midfielder for a while and signed Oliver Abildgaard in the summer on loan from Rubin Kazan, but he has struggled for playing time as well. Could Laidouni be the man to solve their problems in that position once and for all?
