Celtic have not been ones to wait around for the January transfer window to open. They have already gotten deals over the line for Yuki Kobayashi and Alistair Johnston, and it looks like the club have further signings in their sights as well, as they are keen not to let their commanding lead in the league title race slip away in the second half of the campaign.

One of the players that they have been linked with in recent times is Mohamed Magdy, more popularly known simply as Afsha, who currently plays for Egyptian giants Al Ahly.

Of course, the rumours have confused a lot of fans considering the fact that an attacking midfielder, capable of playing on the wings, is not exactly the profile of player that the Hoops need at the moment, especially considering the fact that both Josip Juranovic and Giorgos Giakoumakis are being linked with moves away from Parkhead in January.

But it looks like there is something to the rumours about making a potential move for Afsha. As reported by the Daily Record, his agent Abdelrahman Ismail told Egyptian radio:

"“Besiktas, Galatasaray and Celtic are competing to sign Mohamed Magdy Afsha.”"

Thus, it appears that Celtic are competing with Turkish giants, Galatasaray and Besiktas, to complete the signing of Afsha. It remains to be seen who comes out on top.

It is going to be an expensive move, as recent rumours coming out of Egypt have suggested that it would take a transfer fee around €5 million for Al Ahly to part ways with Afsha.

Afsha is a full Egyptian international and has been one of the best players in the league there for a while as well. But at the same time, one has to wonder whether Celtic really need to bring him in at this point of time. Ange Postecoglou has shown an incredible eye for talent though and the fans will trust his judgement fully.
