It is safe to say that football has changed a lot over the years, especially the financial aspect of the game, to the point where it has become impossible for clubs like Celtic to sign the best players in the world not only during their prime but also in the twilights of their careers as well, as they can easily get better offers to play in the MLS, the Middle East, Asia or elsewhere.

Not too long ago, it was not uncommon for Celtic to bring in legends of the game towards the end of their careers though.

During the time of Martin O’Neill as manager, Celtic were truly a brilliant team that consisted of some terrific players and it looks like they could have potentially ended up adding Rivaldo to the mix as well.

O’Neill was asked on Twitter about the one player that he tried to sign for Celtic that did not end up joining but he wished that he did and the former Hoops manager ended up naming Rivaldo:

Rivaldo is one of the greatest to ever step on to a football pitch. He won the Ballon d’Or on one occasion.

On the other hand, he also won the Champions League with AC Milan, league titles with Barcelona in Spain, won silverware in Brazil and won the World Cup as well as the Copa America with his national team too.

Seeing someone like Rivaldo in the Hoops would have been quite something but unfortunately, it did not happen.

Rivaldo did end up playing in some interesting leagues towards the end of his career though, including Uzbekistan and Angola, in what was truly one of the most fascinating careers in the history of the game. Only if Glasgow had been one of the stops along the way.

Must Read. Celtic fans must brace themselves for a surprise exit. light
