Celtic have made a blistering start to their January transfer window plans. The Hoops have already confirmed the signings of Alistair Johnston and Yuki Kobayashi, and the early moves will give them the chance to adjust to their new surroundings and teammates before the club season resumes.
It does not look like Celtic have any plans to stop here though. Especially when you consider that Josip Juranovic and Giorgos Giakoumakis have been linked with moves away from the club in January after failing to agree new deals.
One player that Celtic have been linked with several times in the past is Mohamed Magdy, popularly known as Afsha, who plays for Al Ahly right now.
As reported by Football Scotland, Celtic have made contact with Afsha’s representatives regarding a potential move for the Egyptian star.
Celtic linked with move for highly-rated attacking midfielder and have made contact with his representatives
Afsha is an attacking midfielder who is also capable of playing on the wings. Of course, this kind of versatility makes him very valuable to any team that he is on.
He is a full Egyptian international and at 26 years of age, pretty much in the middle of his prime as a footballer. Thus, this would be a great time to sign him.
The fact that Celtic have been linked with Afsha several times in the past does suggest that the club have been keeping a close eye on his development as a player for some time now, and they must be impressed with what they have seen from him.
A move for Afsha would not be cheap though and recent rumours coming out of Egypt had suggested that Al Ahly would look for a transfer fee around €5 million to part ways with their star man. That would be a significant fee to shell out for Celtic, especially considering there are other positions which need reinforcements too.
