Celtic signing Alistair Johnston was seen by many as the final signal that Josip Juranovic was inevitably going to be leaving the club after the World Cup. Rumours had already suggested that talks over a new deal had broken down, and the Hoops were ready to listen to offers for the Croatian international after the World Cup, when his transfer value would be at its peak.

It goes without saying that Juranovic leaving in the middle of the season would not be ideal by any stretch of the imagination. He has been a starter for Celtic ever since he has arrived.

Celtic still have three competitions to vie for. Thus, if Juranovic is to leave, perhaps next summer could suit the Hoops much better rather than this January. And there seems to be some good news in that regard.

As reported by Sky Sports, while talks over a new deal broke down, it is understood that talks will resume when Juranovic returns from the World Cup.

Unexpected twist in Juranovic’s future at Celtic despite Johnston signing

Thus, it looks like it is not a foregone conclusion that Juranovic will be leaving Celtic in January, lie many felt it was when the club decided to sign Johnston.

Let’s see what the future holds and whether the two parties are able to make a breakthrough when contract talks resume after the World Cup.

Juranovic is currently starting for the Croatian national team and has had a great time, keeping two clean sheets and showing his quality in the attacking third of the pitch as well.

Thus, if Celtic were to part ways with Juranovic in the future, they should expect a transfer fee much higher than the £2.5 million that they were believed to have shelled out to sign him from Legia Warsaw in the summer of 2021.
