Celtic might be in a commanding position in the Premiership right now, but that does not mean that they have not faced their fair share of problems this season. On the contrary, the Hoops have had to deal with injuries to a number of their key players. The difference this time around has been the fact that the Hoops have much more depth in their squad and more options all over the pitch.
When Celtic became the champions of Scotland last season, Callum McGregor had a monumental influence on achieving the feat. Not only did he put in a number of brilliant performances in the middle of the park, but also his leadership qualities had a noteworthy impact on a group that had mostly been put together that summer.
As has been the case for many years now, he played constant football and continued to perform at a very high level throughout, even though he had to play a large part of the campaign with a protective mask on. This season, however, a knee injury has been keeping him on the sidelines for a substantial period of time so far.
Since sustaining a knee injury against RB Leipzig on October 5 in a UEFA Champions League clash, the club captain has been out of action. It does seem that he is closing in on a return to the pitch though.
Celtic superstar ready to make long-awaited return
As reported by 67 Hail Hail, speaking in a media conference on Celtic’s official YouTube channel, Postecoglou confirmed:
"“He can’t wait to get cracking. He trained with the first team today and will be part of our build-up to our game against Aberdeen. He’s ready to go. It’ll be great to have him back.“Credit to the team. People stepped up when they needed to. He’s such an influential player on and off the field.”"
His return could prove to be a massive boost for the Hoops as the reigning Scottish champions are dreaming of retaining the coveted league title this season.
A nine-point gap has already crept into the equation, with Rangers falling behind after a relatively poor run of results. Following an absence of two months, McGregor is finally edging toward a return as Celtic host Aberdeen on December 17.
