Celtic sit in a comfortable position in the Scottish Premiership right now but the World Cup has given them some things to think about. The biggest worry for them seems to be players potentially leaving in the January transfer window after impressing in the tournament. And with all four of the club’s representatives making it to the last 16 of the competition, they have certainly been impressive.
One man who looks almost certain to leave Celtic in the near future is Josip Juranovic. Rumours had already broken out that the club had failed to agree a new deal with him and were ready to listen to offers in January.
On the other hand, they are believed to be closing in on a move for Alistair Johnston, who himself had a solid World Cup campaign with the Canadian national team even though they finished bottom of their group.
Juranovic has already been linked with the likes of Chelsea, Manchester United and Atletico Madrid in the past. And Paul Robinson reckons that Tottenham Hotspur could have an eye on the Croatian as well. As reported by Football Scotland, he said while speaking to OLBG:
"“The right-wing back position is clearly an area that Antonio Conte is unhappy with. The Tottenham fans are not happy too.“Emerson Royal is very inconsistent, Matt Doherty has been in and out of the side. Conte will be looking at Josip Juranovic after his performance against Canada, but Conte wants might want more of a specialised wing-back.”"
Celtic starter linked with potential move to Tottenham Hotspur
Juranovic certainly seems to be the kind of player who could make his mark at a club like Tottenham Hotspur.
He has started all three games for Croatia in the World Cup and certainly done a very good job, by keeping two clean sheets and making his presence felt in the attacking third as well.
Celtic were believed to have shelled out a transfer fee in the region of £2.5 million in order to sign Juranovic from Legia Warsaw in the summer of 2021. It is safe to say that the club should expect way more than that if they let him go in January.
