Michael Beale has been appointed as the Rangers manager and handed the task of stopping Celtic. The Hoops have made a great start to the campaign and sit nine points clear of their Glasgow rivals after just 15 Premiership games. It has led to the Ibrox club showing Giovanni van Bronckhorst the exit door despite the fact that he won the Scottish Cup last season while also guiding them to the UEFA Europa League final.
In Beale, they have brought in someone who was highly-rated during his time as a coach but is unproven as a manager.
He was in his first season in management, at QPR, before making the move to Ibrox. He only has 22 games under his belt till now. Thus, it goes without saying that the Rangers have taken a major risk by appointing Beale.
Beale had some unexpected comments to make after his appointment as Rangers manager though, as he gave Ange Postecoglou credit and admitted that the Ibrox club were the ones who were chasing right now. As reported by Football Scotland, he said while speaking on Sky Sports:
"“It’s going to be difficult. Ange has got a team with momentum. Fair play to him for the job he’s done until this point. My job is to chase him down. The players job is to chase him down. That’s a mentality shift from how we look at things. When I left here we were the one in front so the mentality has shifted and we have to chase them down.”"
Beale has made an unexpected claim about Postecoglou as he hopes to chase down Celtic
It goes without saying that Postecoglou has been immense ever since arriving as Celtic manager. One has to remember that very few people gave him a chance when he was handed the job in the summer of 2021.
Celtic were coming off of a disaster of a season, as they blew the chance to complete 10IAR, finished 25 points behind the Rangers and trophyless as well.
Thus, expectations were next to nil when Postecoglou was handed the Parkhead job and yet he guided the team to a Premiership and League Cup double. This season, he also has guided them to a commanding lead in the league.
