Most of the attention in the Scottish football media has recently gone towards Ibrox, as the Rangers have had a change in managers, replacing Giovanni van Bronckhorst with Michael Beale. It remains to be seen how that goes and the club are definitely taking a big risk with this appointment. On the other hand, Celtic are a picture of calm, as they continue to work towards their goal and get deals over the line.

The move for Yuki Kobayashi has already been announced, as it looks like the Japanese star will be joining the backline that already consists of Cameron Carter-Vickers, Carl Starfelt, Stephen Welsh and Moritz Jenz, currently on loan from Lorient.

He is not the only defender that Celtic seem to be on the verge of signing though, as it looks like a move for Canadian international and CF Montreal star, Alistair Johnston, is only a matter of time.

As tweeted out by Tom Bogert, Johnston’s transfer from CF Montreal to Celtic is being finalized. Agreements now reached between all and it is all but done.

Brilliant late night Celtic transfer news has emerged

It is safe to say that someone like Johnston could be an excellent addition to this Celtic team. He is capable of playing both as a right-back and as a centre-back.

That means that he will add to the depth in both those positions. But he does not look like someone who will be a squad player though. Johnston has been one of the best right-backs in the MLS in recent times and impressed at the World Cup with Canada as well.

On the other hand, Josip Juranovic is rumoured to be on his way out of the club, which means that Johnston could very well come in and slot into the starting XI. Of course, he will have to compete with Anthony Ralston for that spot.

More. Former Celtic star could make unexpected Parkhead return in January. light
