Celtic are a picture of calm at the moment as they go on about their business. They have already signed Yuki Kobayashi in order to strengthen their backline further while a move for Alistair Johnston only seems like a matter of time and should be over the line once the Canadian national team’s World Cup campaign comes to an end, which will be after the group stages.
Around Europe, a lot of changes are happening in the footballing landscape though, at some of the biggest clubs in the game.
It was not too long ago that the ownership of Chelsea changed hands. Manchester United and Liverpool are believed to be up for sale as well. And now, the entire Juventus board have decided to resign, amidst the club’s struggles on and off the pitch over the past few years.
Celtic Park got a mention in former Juventus President, Andrea Agnelli’s farewell letter. As reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport, he wrote:
"Bernabeu, Old Trafford, Allianz Arena, Westfallen Stadium, San Siro, Georgios Karaiskaks, Celtic Park, Camp Nou: wherever we went when the team was compact we feared nobody."
Juventus president mentions Celtic Park as he steps down from his post
It is safe to say that the last few years have been tough for Juventus. In many ways, they have been the victims of their own success.
Just like Celtic, they won their respective league for nine straight seasons, but could not get it done for a tenth time.
Since then, they have not been able to even come close to competing for the title over the past two-and-a-half seasons. They have been facing financial difficulties as well. Also on top of that was the failed European Super League project, which Juventus were believed to be one of the key players in alongside Real Madrid and Barcelona.
There has been talk of trying to bring the European Super League back by 2025, with some rumours even suggesting that Celtic and the Rangers could be handed spots.
Agnelli had held his position at Juventus since 2010 and his family have had ownership of the club since 1923. He is set to be replaced by Gianluca Ferrero.
