Celtic are sitting top of the Premiership table, leading the Rangers by nine points. They are also in the semi-finals of the League Cup, where they will be taking on Kilmarnock. The Hoops won both trophies last season. The one they did not was the Scottish Cup, and Ange Postecoglou would surely be looking to add that to his cabinet this time around.

Celtic have drawn with Greenock Morton for the fourth round of the Scottish Cup, with the game taking place on January 21 at Parkhead.

There is some history between the two teams. Back in 2013, Greenock Morton had actually knocked Celtic out of the League Cup. On that occasion, it was Dougie Imrie’s penalty which had decided the game at Parkhead. This time around, he finds himself as the manager of the club.

In another fascinating coincidence, it was Efe Ambrose who had given away the penalty on that occasion due to a handball. Now, he plays for Greenock Morton. He is not the only former Celtic star who could be set for a Parkhead return date in January though.

As reported by Football Scotland, Greenock Morton are looking at the option of bringing Leigh Griffiths to Cappielow. A possible short-term offer could be on the table from the January window.

Griffiths was Celtic’s most prolific scorer of the previous decade but his career has certainly gone south in recent years.

Most recently, he had found himself playing for Australian semi-professional club, Mandurah City. His spell with Scottish League One side, Falkirk, before that, was not a success.

As a result, it is safe to say that Griffiths needs a boost to save his playing career from fading away completely and a potential spell at Greenock Morton could be what he needs right now.
