As a player, Harry Kewell reached some of the highest peaks that exist in football, even winning the Champions League with Liverpool. His managerial career has not exactly gone smoothly though and he now finds himself in a coaching role at Celtic. Of course, working with Ange Postecoglou could do his future prospects a world of good.
Postecoglou has proven himself since arriving at Celtic. There were big question marks about his credentials when he was handed the Parkhead job in the summer of 2021, despite the fact that he had enjoyed success in both Japan and Australia before arriving in Glasgow.
Against all odds, he guided Celtic to a Premiership and League Cup double even though nothing was expected of the team after the disaster that was the 2020/21 campaign, in which they had finished trophyless and 25 points behind the Rangers. And now, he has them sitting 9 points ahead of the Ibrox club in the title race after just 15 league games.
Kewell has gone as far as to describe him as Australia’s greatest ever coach. The former Liverpool star himself has his eyes on someday emulating Postecoglou and getting the Socceroos job. As reported by Glasgow Times, he said while doing commentary:
"“Why not?“Everyone else puts their hand up! Of course, people turn around and say, ‘He doesn’t have experience.’“I think my results in the UK were OK. I’m working at Celtic with our greatest-ever manager [Postecoglou].”"
Kewell makes sensational claim about Celtic boss
It is safe to say that Postecoglou has proven himself to be a top, top manager during his time at Celtic and has caught the eye of clubs around Europe with the job that he is doing at Parkhead right now.
Success is nothing new to Postecoglou though. Before joining Celtic, he had been successful at clubs like Yokohama F. Marinos, Brisbane Roar, South Melbourne and even with the Australian national team.
At one point of time, Postecoglou must have surely felt that he was never going to get a chance to show what he was capable of on an European stage but when the chance came, he certainly took it with both hands.
Kewell himself has had managerial stints at clubs like Crawley Town, Notts County, Oldham Athletic and Barnet. They did not lead to much success. But working so closely with Postecoglou will help him become a better coach.
