Alistair Johnston is believed to be on the verge of a move to Celtic. Rumours have suggested that almost everything has already been agreed, and the transfer will be announced once Canada’s World Cup campaign is over. After losing to both Belgium and Croatia, they have only one game left and that is against Morocco, before the Maple Leafs head home.

Johnston impressed in his display against Belgium, as Canada were unlucky not to get something out of that game. The performance against Croatia did not go as well, but then, the difference between the two sides was clear coming into the match itself. Incidentally, on the day, he came up against Josip Juranovic, who could be on his way out of Parkhead after the World Cup.

Johnston himself has been one of the best defenders in the MLS in recent times, capable of playing both as a right-back and as a centre-back.

As reported by the Daily Record, Celtic are confident of signing Johnston after thrashing out a deal with Montreal FC worth up to £3 million. The player will pocket 10 percent of the figure.

Johnston to Celtic transfer fee finally revealed

It goes without saying that that is a decent transfer fee to pay out for Celtic but at the same time, something that they would be comfortable with.

Johnston was rated at around €6 million, so many people could even consider that as a bargain for a player who has been one of the best in the MLS in recent times.

Let’s see if or when the deal goes through, and how he does at Celtic. At the same time, it would not be ideal if Juranovic left in the middle of the season, but by the look of things, that is exactly what is going to happen.

Anthony Ralston might get the starting berth if Juranovic left, with Johnston taking time to adjust to the Scottish game and Angeball.
