Celtic look set to undergo some changes following the World Cup. It is never ideal to make too many changes in the middle of the season, but if done early, they can be prove to be positive instead of negative, as we saw last season with the arrivals of Reo Hatate, Daizen Maeda, Yosuke Ideguchi and Matt O’Riley.

This time around, the biggest change could prove to be an exit though, as it is believed that Josip Juranovic is set to leave the club after the World Cup.

The club and the player failed to reach an agreement over a contract extension and now, it looks like Celtic are ready to part ways. Juranovic’s transfer value is expected to be at its peak after the World Cup, with him playing a key role in the Croatian team as a starter.

It looks like Celtic have not wasted any time and are already closing in on a move to sign Alistair Johnston of Canada.

Incidentally, Croatia faced off against Canada at the World Cup on matchday 2 and there was some news that was of interest to Celtic fans, as it looks like a fee has been agreed for Johnston. A report from the Daily Record goes on to read:

"It had previously been reported that a verbal agreement had been reached, with ‘final details’ remaining to be hashed out. But the BBC’s lead commentator Steve WIlson dropped the news early in the clash that a fee has now been greenlit, going as far to say Johnston will definitely be announced as a Celtic player as soon as the World Cup is out of the way. The news came just before Alphonso Davies headed the North Americans into a shock lead over Juranovic’s team."

Johnston has looked impressive in his displays in the World Cup for Canada and is believed to have been one of the best defenders in the MLS, where he plays for CF Montreal right now.

Ange Postecoglou has shown an incredible eye for talent since arriving as Celtic manager and the fans will trust him to be able to replace Juranovic, if the Croatian international does indeed end up leaving the club after the World Cup.

With Juranovic being a regular starter for the Hoops, him leaving would not be good news but if it is bound to happen, the positive is that Celtic have identified a replacement early.
