Celtic have been tremendous when it comes to their recruitment, following the arrival of Ange Postecoglou as manager. The club are showing no signs of stopping either. They have already announced the signing of Japanese centre-back, Yuki Kobayashi, and a move for Canadian right-back, Alistair Johnston, seems to be only a matter of time as well.

The club have been linked with several other players in recent times though, with one of them being Hibernian’s Ryan Porteous.

Porteous has been a key part of the Hibernian team in recent years and impressed on his Scotland debut as well, to the point that he has been linked with a future move to Celtic or the Rangers. And next summer seems to be when he is hoping to make his big move.

As reported by Hibernian’s official website, Porteous will not sign a new contract with the club. He has turned down a new deal to stay at Easter Road.

The availability of someone like Porteous as a free agent could certainly give Celtic something to think about.

Of course, there are certain flaws in his game, but on his day, he is a very good centre-back. He has shown that at both club and international level. Also, he is still just 23 years of age and should get better with experience.

At the same time, Celtic could have a vacant spot at centre-back in the future, depending on what happens with Moritz Jenz, who is currently on loan from Lorient, and Stephen Welsh, who has failed to nail down his spot in the team.

Would Celtic even be interested in making a move for Porteous though? That remains to be seen. If they don’t make a move, it would not be surprising to see him potentially end up at Ibrox.
