Rangers decided to show Giovanni van Bronckhorst the exit door after falling nine points behind Celtic in the Scottish Premiership title race and enduring the worst Champions League group stage campaign in the history of the competition. Not many could have predicted the Dutchman to be gone before Christmas coming into the season.

After all, he had managed to guide the Rangers to a Scottish Cup last season while also reaching the Europa League final, which they lost against Eintracht Frankfurt.

In recent weeks, it had looked like the Dutchman was running out of ideas though as the Rangers continued to slide down the table and are closer to third placed Aberdeen than leaders Celtic right now.

It appears that the Ibrox club will be looking to their past in hopes of moving forward from here. As tweeted out by talkSPORT, Rangers are ready to make a formal approach to speak to QPR manager Mick Beale.

Rangers pick potential next manager in hopes of stopping Celtic

Beale was part of the coaching team at Ibrox during the time of Steven Gerrard as the manager of the Rangers, and many even believe that he was the tactical mastermind behind their Premiership win in the 2020/21 campaign.

Since then, Beale has taken his first steps in management himself and finds himself at QPR. After a bright start to the campaign, the Championship club have hit a rough patch of form though, losing four of their last five games.

For Celtic, it does not really matter who the manager of the Rangers turns out to be. As long as they do not drop more than eight points till the end of the league season, they are guaranteed to be the champions.

Celtic do not seem to be interested in standing still despite their nine point lead though, as they have already announced the signing of Yuki Kobayashi and are closing in on a move for Alistair Johnston as well.
