Alistair Johnston is a name that is doing the rounds of the Celtic rumour mill in recent days. The defender caught the eye with his performance against Belgium at the World Cup, as Canada outplayed the European giants and only lost because they could not take their chances in front of goal, including a penalty miss from Alphonso Davies.

Johnston was pretty good though and has been one of the best defenders in the MLS in recent times. And since then, rumours have emerged that Celtic are closing in on a move for the Canadian international.

It is not hard to see why Celtic might be interested with Josip Juranovic being linked with a Parkhead exit, after the World Cup. Johnston is capable of playing at both right-back and as a centre-back.

Now, Fabrizio Romano has given an update on the situation involving Celtic and Johnston. The reliable journalist tweeted out that personal terms were already being discussed but there is still a wait for the full agreement between clubs.

Ange Postecoglou has shown a brilliant eye for talent since arriving as Celtic manager and Johnston could prove to be another hidden gem.

He has been one of the best defenders in the MLS for a while and showed against Belgium what he was capable of as well.

Also, with the possibility that Juranovic could be on his way out of the club in January, the Hoops could be in need of reinforcements in that area soon.

It will be interesting to see what kind of a transfer fee CF Montreal will look for in order to part ways with Johnston. When it comes to Juranovic, Celtic can definitely expect for a figure higher than £15 million for the Croatian international, who is starting for them at the World Cup.
