Real Madrid’s visit to Celtic Park earlier on in the season was without doubt a memorable night for many fans. It is not often that you get to host the European champions in Glasgow and the Hoops certainly put up a great showing on the occasion. It was their finishing that let them down, but based on the chances created, they could have taken something out of the game against Carlo Ancelotti’s team.

That is an achievement in itself and goes on to show how far this team has come under the management of Ange Postecoglou.

One of the biggest factors on that night were the fans, who were absolutely electric, with main stage Champions League football returning to Parkhead after so many years.

It is them who seemed to impress the Real Madrid players the most. As reported by 67 Hail Hail, Josip Juranovic revealed on the Celtic View, what his Croatian teammate, Luka Modric, said after the game:

"“After the game immediately he was saying that with these fans you can do everything, but you need experience also at this level because we didn’t score from the chances that we had, they had maybe half the chances we had and they scored, because of that experience in the biggest games in the world.”"

Modric made brilliant claim after playing at Celtic Park with Real Madrid

The atmosphere at Celtic Park on European nights is the stuff of legends and it certainly was up there when Real Madrid came visiting as one would expect.

At the same time though, while the opposition players might enjoy playing at the ground, it is about time that Celtic start using the atmosphere to their advantage and start picking up some wins at Parkhead on big European nights against top clubs. If they can do that then they can make the knockout phases of these competitions.

Of course, it is not going to happen overnight and will be a gradual process. Hopefully, the players have learned a lot from their Champions League campaign this time around and will be better when they play at that level the next time.
