Celtic are not wasting any time when it comes to getting deals done for the January transfer window. They announced the move for Yuki Kobayashi recently. And it is just November!

The Japanese centre-back will be able to play for the club when January starts but he is free to start training with his new teammates from December itself, which could go a long way in making sure that he is ready to play his role in the team by the time the World Cup break comes to an end.

Celtic appear to have no intentions of stopping after signing Kobayashi though and already seem to be getting closer to their second acquisition of the January transfer window.

As tweeted out by Manuel Veth, Alistair Johnston is closing in on a move to Celtic and a deal is now advanced.

Celtic are closing in on their second signing of the January transfer window

Most Celtic fans would have heard the name of Johnston for the first time when Canada took on Belgium at the World Cup recently.

Johnston put in a solid display against one of the best national teams in the world and to be honest, Canada were the better team on the night and should have won if they had taken their chances in front of goal. Already sounds like Celtic!

Johnston has been one of the best defenders in the MLS for a while now though and it looks like he could be a major coup for Celtic if the club are able to get a deal for him over the line.

Let’s see what the future holds but one would wonder what these Johnston rumours mean for Josip Juranovic, who has been linked with a Parkhead exit after the World Cup, when his transfer value is expected to be at its peak.
