Celtic have already shown that they mean business by announcing the signing of Yuki Kobayashi. It is just November. This coming from a club that has had a reputation over the years of dragging their heels when it comes to transfers. The transformation that the Hoops’ approach has undergone since the arrival of Ange Postecoglou is remarkable.

In many ways, it feels like the disaster that was the 2020/21 season proved to be a wake up call for Celtic. They have backed Postecoglou after that, and have reaped the benefits for it.

It appears that they have no intention of stopping after the signing of Kobayashi either. Rumours broke out about their interest in Alistair Johnston after the Canada vs Belgium game at the World Cup, in which he put in a shift for the Maple Leafs.

It looks like a move for Johnston might be in a much more advanced stage than most people would believe, and the club might have been working on the deal for a while now. A reported by Transfermarkt goes on to read:

"But Celtic are now leading the race, and a deal between the player and the MLS club has already been formally agreed upon."

Sensational Johnston to Celtic transfer update emerges

Johnston has been one of the best defenders in the MLS in recent times. He plays for CF Montreal and is capable of playing as a right-back as well as a centre-back.

A move for Johnston is not expected to have a lot of hurdles simply because of the fact that he holds a UK passport.

The timing of these rumours are interesting as well, as it is believed that Celtic are ready to let Josip Juranovic go after the World Cup. He is a starter for the Croatian national team at the moment and his transfer value is expected to be at its highest after the tournament in Qatar. Clubs like Chelsea, Manchester United and Atletico Madrid have been linked with him recently.
