Celtic fans will have a keen eye on the managerial race at Ibrox. It has merely been months since there had been claims that Giovanni van Bronckhorst had Ange Postecoglou figured out and the Dutch manager could prove to be vital in the Rangers’ quest to get back to the top of the Premiership once again, after failing to defend their crown despite being overwhelming favourites last time around.

Well, just a few months on and Van Bronckhorst is no longer the manager of the Rangers while they find themselves sitting nine points behind Celtic in the league table, after just 15 games have been played this season.

It is safe to say that the situation is not ideal for the Ibrox club, and they might be looking to go back to the past in an attempt to move towards the future, as Michael Beale seems to be the favourite to get the Rangers job.

As reported by the Daily Record, Beale is very much in the frame to be the next manager of the Rangers and QPR will not stand in his way if he wanted to make a return to Ibrox.

Latest news surrounding the managerial race at Ibrox won’t worry Celtic at all

Beale was part of Steven Gerrard’s coaching team at Ibrox, when they won the Premiership title a couple of seasons back.

And Beale did have a big reputation, with many even considering him to be the mastermind behind the Rangers’ triumph. Since then, he has taken his first steps in management as well, and is the current QPR boss.

QPR have made a decent start to the season and are currently sitting at 7th in the Championship. They are in the middle of a poor run of form as well though, and have not won any of their last five games, while losing four of them.

Beale might well have been a good coach, but it is a whole different ball game when it comes to managing a side. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he has won 9, lost 9 and drawn 4 of his 22 games as manager till now. That is not exactly a stellar record.

Even during his three-and-a-half years as part of Gerrard’s coaching team at Ibrox, the club managed to win only one trophy. Thus, while Beale might be very highly rated by the Rangers fans, the fact of the matter is that he has a lot to prove as a manager.
