Celtic fans were left surprised when the club announced the triple deal for Reo Hatate, Daizen Maeda and Yosuke Ideguchi before the January transfer window had even opened last time around. Well, that looks like snail’s pace compared to this time, as the club have already announced that the signing of Yuki Kobayashi and it is just November.

Kobayashi is expected to fill an important role in the team and that is of a left-sided centre-back. The fact that he is left-footed makes him perfect for the role and opens up a lot of possibilities for Ange Postecoglou.

Combine that with the fact that Carl Starfelt has struggled badly with injuries in recent times and Moritz Jenz is only on loan at the moment, and this could prove to be a vital addition to Postecoglou’s team.

The manager has already hinted at more than one signing in January and it is hard to see any more areas of need in this squad right now except for one: striker.

Celtic need to add in just one more position in this January transfer window

Kyogo Furuhashi and Giorgos Giakoumakis deserve a lot of credit for the job that they have done since arriving at Celtic. They played key parts in the double last season.

At the same time though, one has to admit that their finishing this season has left a lot to be desired and has been one of the reasons why so many matches have been so close and gone down to the wire, when the Hoops should have been running away with the result based on chances created.

What Celtic need right now is another clinical striker in the squad. Just two is clearly not enough and one would hope that the arrival of new competition will also help raise the games of Kyogo and Giakoumakis, who seem to have stagnated in some respects, this season.
