Celtic have quite the squad right now. Their performance against Everton in Australia was further proof that Ange Postecoglou is building something special here, as Frank Lampard’s side, one of the biggest traditional clubs in the Premier League, were happy enough to sit back and play on the counter-attack against the Hoops.

One of the biggest reasons behind Celtic’s improvement following the arrival of Postecoglou has been their smart recruitment, as the club have been successful in identifying several first-team stars.

That does not mean that everybody that they have been interested in has ended up moving to Glasgow. One player that Celtic have been linked with several times over the past couple of seasons in Ola Solbakken of Bodo/Glimt.

Solbakken has been one of the most highly rated talents in Norway for quite a while and it is not hard to see why Celtic might have been interested in signing him. But it looks like Jose Mourinho’s AS Roma have won the race for his signature.

As tweeted out by Fabrizio Romano, AS Roma are set to sign Solbakken on a free transfer after a deal was verbally agreed months ago.

It is safe to say that signing someone of Solbakken’s quality on a free transfer has to be considered as a transfer masterstroke on the part of AS Roma and they deserve a lot of credit for it. If Celtic had been able to get a similar deal over the line, it would have been seen as a major coup for the Hoops.

They have not though, and he is set to join AS Roma instead. It must be said that Celtic have some decent depth on the wings at the moment and it is up front where they might need reinforcements. Hopefully someone will be brought in in January.
