Celtic are without doubt in a transitional phase right now, despite their success under the management of Ange Postecoglou. A number of the faces of the club from the previous generation have hung up their boots or are in the twilight of their playing careers. Some are taking their first steps in management as well.

Scott Brown is the manager of Fleetwood Town, which is his first job at the helm of a club, after a player-coach role at Aberdeen. And soon, Kolo Toure seems ready for his first managerial job as well.

Toure has spent time as a technical assistant at Celtic and a first-team coach at Leicester City, as well as the Ivory Coast national team, and now, his first job as the manager of a team beckons.

As reported by Sky Sports, Toure is close to becoming the new manager of Wigan Athletic. He has held talks with the owners of the club and is believed to have impressed them enough to be offered the job.

Toure arrived at Celtic in the twilight of his career and it would go on to be his last team, before he announced his retirement from the game.

Toure might not have played a lot of football for Celtic, but he did go on to have a storied career on the pitch regardless, having represented Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City through the course of his playing days as well.

It was a career filled with silverware and success, and now, it remains to be seen if he can achieve the same as a manager. It will be a difficult job if he does indeed take over the reins at Wigan Athletic, who currently find themselves sitting at 22nd in the Championship table.

It has been a continuous slide for Wigan Athletic in recent years, who had won the FA Cup less than a decade ago, but now find themselves bouncing between the Championship and the League One.
