Mohamed Elyounoussi had an interesting time on loan at Celtic, from Southampton. When he arrived at the club, he had failed to make any sort of impact with the Saints and needed to get his career back on track. He would go on to spend a couple of years at the club though, and it did the trick for the Norwegian international.

He has managed to establish himself as a starter for Southampton following his stint at Celtic. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he has made 16 appearances for the club this season, but managed to score no goals and has a solitary assist to his name.

He was one of the more prolific players at the club during his two seasons at Celtic though and many would argue that he did not end up getting the amount of time on the pitch that he deserved.

But it is clear that Elyounoussi has happy memories of his time spent in Glasgow. As reported by The Irish Times, he said:

"“There is the kind of connection when you see the Irish flag because that is something you saw everywhere in Celtic.“I had a really good time, it was a period where I needed to play games, get confidence again and find myself. I think I certainly did that in Celtic. The size of the club, the fans, everything was brilliant, and it is still a club I am following and watch and support.”"

Perhaps Elyounoussi deserved more time on the pitch and more credit for the job that he did during his loan spell at Celtic.

He was playing some top football during the 2019/20 campaign but ended up having to deal with a couple of injuries which kept him out on the sidelines for quite a while. The following season, he was arguably the best player that the club had. He was one of the few who managed to score consistently when they were on the pitch but surprisingly, there were often occasions when he was left out of the team.

It is great to see that it has ultimately worked out for him at Southampton though and he is playing regularly for the Premier League side now.
