Celtic did not kick off their Australian tour like they would have wanted, as they suffered a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Sydney FC. The Hoops had taken a lead through Kyogo Furuhashi but it did not last long. And then the home side managed to complete a comeback in the second half. Of course, the result did not mean much as it was a friendly and Ange Postecoglou would have been happy enough to give a run out in the park to a lot of fringe players.

It was a much needed win for Sydney FC though. They have not made a good start to their A-League campaign and this should give them a boost.

On the other hand, this could very well have been an opportunity for Postecoglou to have a look at some of the players before the January transfer window and make a decision on their futures. Celtic are expected to make some moves at the start of next year.

Sydney FC did what the Rangers were not able to though, that is defeat Celtic. And they ended up having some tongue-in-cheek fun at the Ibrox side’s expense as well with a quote tweet:

Celtic have another friendly game to play during their tour of Australia, the big one against Frank Lampard’s Everton. Originally, it was supposed to be the Rangers who took part in that match, but the Ibrox club ended up pulling out from the Sydney Super Cup after facing backlash from their supporters.

Hopefully, the result in the game against Everton will be different, as Celtic surely would not want to return home from Australia with two defeats in the bag.

Everton need the win as well though in order give themselves a boost. Lampard’s team managed to avoid the drop last season in thrilling fashion, but find themselves embroiled in a relegation battle once again this time around. They currently sit at 17th in the Premier League table, a point above Nottingham Forest in 18th.
